Suchitra Krishnamoorthi to direct solo act ‘Drama Queen Refreshed’

Actor-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi will perform in a new solo play, ‘Drama Queen Refreshed’ at Delhi-NCR on June 4-5.

Based on his best-selling fictional memoir from 2013, the 80-minute musical piece chronicles Krishnamoorthi’s experience in the turbulent years following his divorce from eminent director Shekhar Kapur and claims to raise questions about the changing culture. and Indian beliefs.

Produced under Krishnamoorthi’s new banner, Drama Queen Creatives and directed by Randhir Roy, the program will be held at Kamani Auditorium (New Delhi) and Apparel House, Epicenter (Gurugram) on June 4 and 5, respectively.

“Playing solo is challenging but also exhilarating. Holding the audience’s attention on your own for over an hour takes a lot of preparation and confidence. Moreover, becoming a producer is a new experience for me. A totally different ball game – here I literally put my money where my mouth is,’ the ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ actor said.

”I find myself constantly checking ticket sales and collections. Before, when I was just a performer and creator, I was driven by pure passion. Now, as a producer, I try to be practical,” Krishnamoorthi, 46, added.

A slice-of-life play embellished with humour, ”Drama Queen” presents itself as a real ”emotional roller coaster” and aims to rewrite the boundaries of femininity.

”It’s about the struggles of a single mother trying to find herself. Wicked, over-the-top, irrepressibly funny, but also vulnerable and dark, ‘Drama Queen Refreshed’ will have you laughing, crying and looking at the modern Indian woman in a whole new light,” the organizers said of the play in a statement.

Although it is a solo act, audiences will be able to hear the voices of several renowned actors – including Sujata Kumar, Suchitra Pillai and Arif Zakaria – who are Krishnamoorthi’s co-actors in the play.

Tickets for the show cost between Rs 500 and Rs 3,500.
