Taika Waititi: Stranger Things ruined Kate Bush | arts and entertainment


Taika Waititi joked that ‘Stranger Things’ had ‘ruined’ Kate Bush.

The singer enjoyed a resurgence in popularity after her 1985 hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ featured on the hit Netflix show’s fourth season, but Taika joked that he had a sense of “ownership” over the Bush’s music.

The 46-year-old director told NME: “I love this show, but as someone who really owns Kate Bush’s music…I’m really annoyed!

“I became one of those old assholes who goes, ‘Those kids never listened to Kate Bush, they heard a song on a TV show! They don’t know Kate Bush! Know Kate Bush!'”

Taika has revealed he wants to have a “bundle” of the artist’s songs in his new Marvel blockbuster “Thor: Love and Thunder” before “Stranger Things” puts the singer back in the limelight.

He said, “We were going to have ‘This Woman’s Work,’ which was going to be great for (a scene with) the Natalie Portman character.”

Meanwhile, ‘Stranger Things’ star Sadie Sink has revealed she wanted to write Kate a letter saying a ‘huge thank you’ for adding ‘so much heart’ to the show with ‘Running Up’. That Hill”, which featured in a key scene for his character Max Mayfield.

The 20-year-old actress told Vulture, “The amount of times I’ve listened to her music over the past two years is ridiculous. It’s gotten to the point where I feel like I created her. in my head. I need to reach out somehow. I’d like to write her a letter or something, because she’s been such a big part of Max’s journey. I owe him so much.
